Yummy Homemade Bread

I made this bread.  Without a bread maker, but with a mixer and then my hands.   You can make this bread, too.  IMG 2911

It’s not that complicated.   I’ve never made bread like this.  Now I make it every weekend.

It all started when I spotted this package of bread flour:

There was a recipe for Classic White bread on the back.  Prep time:  35 minutes. Two loaves.

So I assembled the ingredients.

Super easy.   1 tbsp salt

Two tablespoons Crisco, start with 3 & 1/2 cups flour (you’ll add the rest later). Break it up a little.

Add the sugar.  3 tablespoons.

Add 4 &1/2 teaspoons yeast (or two packets)

After mixing dry ingredients with Crisco, add 2 &1/4 cups warm water.  Mix it all together in the mixer. Add remaining flour (3 cups) and mix it until it starts to form a dough like this:

Plop it on the dusted counter, add some flour and KNEAD!

Knead away for about 5-10 minutes until it looks like this:

It should feel smooth and elastic. No bumps.

Cover with damp tea towel or saran wrap. Allow the dough to rise for 1-2 hours.     Place the bowl in a warm area.  I put in on a stove burner that’s been on recently.

I like to brush some cold butter on top.  It doesn’t take much butter, but it makes for a nice finish and it tastes so good!
