There’s More Than One Way… to Color Your World

Gramma knew there was more than one way to get something done.
Gramma knew there was more than one way to get something done.

I’ve dropped the rather grotesque tagline of “There’s more than one way to skin a cat.”  I never actually skinned a cat nor dreamed of skinning a cat, but today someone wrote to me and helped me change my mind about keeping it.

I know the phrase sounds barbaric.  Especially if it really happens to cats.  I found out it does. I never considered that a possibility.  Now that I know, I think it’s a good idea to find something a little more…appropriate.

I picked it up from my Gramma Audrey.  She had a way of commanding my attention with these head-turning kind of phrases. I remember the first time I heard her say “don’t throw the baby out with the bath water.”   I was very confused. Good thing I didn’t choose that idiomatic expression.  I chose her “skin the cat” phrase  because it reminds me of  her fearless spirit, pushing on instead of giving up.

But there’s more than one way to say something, so I’ll go with a cleaner version like “there’s more than one way to color your world.”  Same idea and it actually connects my blog’s content.

If you have something better, by all means, share!  I’m thinking “my color your world” thing is bit too groovy, love-in kind of thing like that Coco Cola commercial from my childhood.  Showing my age, but I’m talking about this one from 1971:

HELP!

Conflicted.

  1. Steph, I like the new tagline because it ties in with the name of your blog and business. I liked the old one too and the personal meaning behind it (being resourceful, etc.) but I can see why you changed it. You are one of the most colorful people I know and I loved that coke commercial growing up : )

  2. I was wondering about that line – especially because I’ve been reconsidering using “skin a bunny” when I pull off the shirts of our little ones! I like your new idea, but could also see you using something about the color wheel or spectrum. Whatever you choose, I love following your blog!
